December Schools News

Nobody could have anticipated the challenges schools and students across the globe have faced over the course of 2020.  For our four schools, operating in some of the poorest and most vulnerable communities, the difficulties have been acute. But since the first Covid-19-enforced lockdown in March, we have been working to ensure all our students continue to learn, whether at home or at school.

Since the first school closures, Superhands staff have striven to find ways to stay connected with all our families as we transitioned to remote learning – bearing in mind most of our students have little or no computer or internet access. Our teachers began distributing and collecting textbooks and notebooks to students’ homes, keeping parents informed of their children’s schoolwork using WhatsApp groups. Where lockdown rules would allow, teachers made home visits. By introducing these basic measures, we’ve managed to keep in touch with our school communities and to let our students know they are not forgotten.

After repoening the schools in late September / early October, disapointingly, the government has closed schools again until the 25th of January 2021. The situation will be reviewed at this time. We have returned to remote learning, and will endeavour to minimise the disruption to our students learning.
